Abstract

The main objective of our paper is to describe the dynamics of translation in children book’s production on the book market in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, in the postcommunist period. Sharing one and the same language, Romanian, these two countries had separate destinies in the 20th century, which led to separate editorial policies until the 90s. The free book market of the postcommunist era brought along several new publishing houses which now compete in it, a metamorphosis of the book as an illustrated/multimodal object, as well as a reciprocal opening. Issues such as translation flows, translator’s and illustrator’s visibility, multimodality in children books’ translations will be addressed in the methodological frame of Translation Studies History and Criticism.
