Le rapport homme – animal dans l’« Histoire naturelle » de Buffon

Abstract

The work of Georges Louis Leclerc de Buffon is important and revealing from the perspective of natural sciences as well as from the literary point of view. The encyclopedic articles of his work "Histoire Naturelle" contain valuable scientific reasonings expressed with artistic taste and in an eloquent style. Long before Darwin, the French naturalist and philosopher Buffon spoke with great delicacy and ease about the relationship between humans and the animal world. His reflections based on traditional truths and the subtlety of his judicious language, manage to bring to light various important problems, that were later at the origins of new sciences and research fields. These questions open up new avenues for discussion of the animality of man as well as the eventual human elements in animals.

REZUMAT

Opera lui Georges Louis Leclerc de Buffon este importantă și revelatoare atât din punctul de vedere al științelor naturale, cât şi din punct de vedere literar. Articolele enciclopedice din lucrarea sa „Histoire naturelle” conțin raționamente științifice valoroase, exprimate cu gust artistic și stil elocvent. Cu mult înainte de Darwin, naturalistul și filozoful francez Buffon a vorbit cu mare delicatețe și pricepere despre relația dintre om și lumea animală. Reflecțiile sale bazate pe adevăruri tradiționale și subtilitatea limbajului său judicios, reușesc să scoată la lumină probleme importante care, mai târziu, s-au aflat la originea unor noi științe și domenii de cercetare. Aceste întrebări deschid noi căi de discuție despre animalitatea omului și despre eventualele caracteristici umane la animale.
